Fish Head curry wonders

Wednesday 15 July 2009

Happy Birthday Sharon!!! :)

After tuition at 8pm today, we went out for a feast at Robson's. Both of us were starving and we ordered a steamed fish, fried pigs intestines and also a plate of vegetable.

Thursday 16 July 2009

We headed out early to visit a nursery (NO NO NOT THE BABY TYPE) to try to get someone to do up our garden. However, the nursery at Klang Lama did not offer such services and specialises mainly in bonsais. hmmmm According to Lilian Too, one should not have bonsais in one's house because it represents stunted growth and little progress. Anyway we are looking for colourful and pretty plants which need virtually no maintanence (I am THAT lazy).

We visited our house again but I didn't go in this time because workmen were still there and drilling away. Alan did his bit of telling the workmen what to do and then we went off to grab a bite. He brought me to eat Indian fishhead curry and fried sotong opposite Bangsar Shopping VIllage. This stall is like a makeshift one along the roadside which gives you the impression that you might have the runs after savouring its delectable fare. But since Alan had feasted there before and his weak stomach did not display any signs of antagonism, we concluded that this preggers mama could follow suit as well.

The fish head was HUGE and we gasped as the Indian server laid it down on our table in front of our very eyes. All the same, we polished off every bit of meat and even had the stomach to enjoy the 4 fried squid that accompanied our meal. hahahaa. The bill (including 1 teh terik) = RM 50. Quite worth it , huh?

Friday 17 July 2009

I have 4 hours of classes lined up today and we have decided against catching Harry Potter this evening because after I finish class it will be already dark. Tomorow we will be going to MVMM perhaps to visit the furniture exhibition (again??!!) and also for our coveted facial at Cres at 3pm. YaY!!! My face needs salvation!!!!!

An irate child

I've just received a disturbing email: No no, please don't think along the lines of nude pictures and threatening chain letters. It was written from Mike, one of the care-takers in Mama Sayang, the orphanage in Jakarta.

For those who don't know, Alan and I are sponsering a child there and have been since 2008. We have even visited the orphanage and her last year to celebrate X'mas together and bring her (and a couple of children) out to a theme park in Jakarta.

To cut the long story short, this girl has managed to wrangle herself outta the orphanage and back home (to a place where no one seems to care two hoots about her). Apparently in those years she was staying at the orphanage, not one family member has called / visited her to find out how she was doing . The problem was that she is very reserved and quite a moody fella and did not have many friends in the orphanage as well.

She now loses the chance of a proper education and even a degree and now will be destined to a life without a future. Life at Mama Sayang is also very meaningful and really a haven away from the storms of the outside world. Very silly move! *sigh* As 'parents' of such an irate and unappreciative child, Alan and I are very shocked and disheartended, having read the news of her departure just this morning.

High Definition Ultra Sound Scans!

Tuesday 14 July 2009

Our doctor's appointment at Gleneagles and 2nd schedule high definition ultra-sound scanning was due today at 1020am. Thankfully Dr Ravi did not have any deliveries or anything impt today and so we waited to see him for only approximately 10mins.

He was again very, very reassuring and throughout the hour-long scanning, he explained what he was doing and what measurements he was taking etc. We got to see (and I got to feel) a very hyper-active Ethan Tan who was kick-boxing in my womb. :P Over the past week or so, I've been feeling him and I don't know how to put the feeling in words. It's like a pop in your belly, sometimes more violent than the others. Even Alan has felt him, with his hand on my belly. haha
Indescribable.

Anyway, after the scanning and paying through out noses, we left for lunch at Ampang Yong Tau Fu. We had a nutritious and delicious meal which consisted of pieces of Yong Tau Fu , some stewed pork with salted vege, 3 pandan chicken wings and rice. The soya bean drink they served up was delicious as well.

Next stop: to order KDK fans for our new house. and then off Alan went to work after dropping me off at Pavilion.

I busied myself with Ice Age 3 and almost fell asleep a couple of times. I think I'm still suffering from sleep deficit. ZzzzZz

We left for the new house after Alan knocked off to check on the progress once again. Sia House at Bangsar Shopping VIllage was having a sale and we scooped up a tasteful painting for a steal (to be placed in living room #2 - which will function as my tuition area).

Dinner was chicken chop (macciam fried batter with skin) for Alan and Ipoh Kuay Teow soup (a tasteless albeit oily soup). I perspired throughout the dinner (since the place wasn't airconditioned) and vowed never to eat in a place w/o aircon again.

A long weekend

Friday 10 July 2009

After a watery home-cooked and yummy codfish porridge for an early dinner, Alan and I took off again to look at our new house. We kinda go every night to get updates as to the progress of our rennovation works and we are pleased to exclaim (with surprise) that they are going on just fine!

The previous glass door which is flanked by the garden has been torn down and sealed up to make way for our home entertainment system. The ceiling has also been recessed and plastered up and cables for the entertainment system, aircon , lights , cctvs have also been laid. The ugly floor has also been hacked and now awaits levelling and then the tiles will be laid to rest.

That's only the downstairs. There's some work to be done upstairs as well but it has not commenced. We are hopeful we can move in on 14 August 2009 officially - which is advised by our Fengshui master. That's another one month more!! How exciting!

Sorry I digressed..

Alan was hungry in no time after the porridge and so we made our way to have a Banana Leaf dinner, part 2 in Bangsar. Something is wrong with Alan's palette nowadays and he actually enjoys eating Indian food and curries. That's so amazing, considering how I used to have to beg / plead / cajole (to no avail) for him to bring me to have a good Indian meal.
Anyway, after our yummy pratas (they call it Roti Channai in KL) and some absolutely delicious honey chicken and fried calamari (which we washed down with mango lassi / iced tea), we went to pick up some dvds to add to our collection. There were no movies that were worth watching that weekend so we decided to enjoy your Friday night at home instead.

Before we headed back home, we pigged out somemore at Baskin Robins, sharing a banana split icecream which cost almost as much as our dinner. ;P Back home, we watched (the newly released in cinemas) Obsessed which proved to be rather thrilling, contrary to my original belief.

Saturday 11th July 2009

We woke up at around 10am and lazily got out of bed. A hearty Mac Donald's breakfast beckoned and we got to Bangsar by 1045am. After that, we again headed down to the new house so that Alan could make sure the workmen were doing their jobs. There was alot of dust in the house so I stayed in the car and fought the sleep bugs threatening to crawl all over me.

Then, we drove to two outlets of Alfo lightning to try to choose our lights for the house. We had signed up with them during their exhibition and paid 5K for a package which allowed us 45% discount store-wide and also if we are unable to spend all that 5K, a full refund was in order. We were however disappointed to find out that not all lights qualified for that 'store-wide 45% off'. hai yah.. that's how the Malaysians do things lah. :P Anyway, their range of lightning wasn't the world's widest as well and now we are still in two-minds about using them.

For a short breather, we popped by Food Floundry for our late brunch. Alan and I shared the lambchops (which had looked very appetising on the plate of the lady sitting diagonally opposite us but which was a tad disappointing) and of course one slice of mille vanilla cake. I also had a peach tea -which i regretted. Ethan spent the whole night kicking mummy and doing sommersaults in my womb probably becos of the caffeine. :P

After our tea break, we left again and this time landed up at Furniture and World of Lighting near Taman Desa. We are bored stiff for the first half an hour or so but finally came across this shop which sold very interesting items. I picked out my tuition table with four chairs and we bought a queen-sized bed and 2 other single mattresses for guests. The shop owner, Laura, was a very humorous and nice lady who gave us many a good discount :D

After that, we were hungry again and so we went to the nearby Japanese restaurant to have dinner. The set meals were going at a steal. I had a small bowl of kimchii ramen and two fried dumplings for RM8.90. Alan had his miso ramen. We also shared salmon belly and two other types of sushi - all cooked fish please.

We went home tired but fulfilled and started to google for places to stay in Oz during our 9 days there.

Sunday 12 July 2009
The day started as usual. We brought Coco and Jay jay to dog-training. I must say that Coco has improved by leaps and bounds. Maybe because of the change of environment. He used to have his lessons at the car park and now it's in a small garden opposite.

After the training, at around 1045am, we made our way to the new house with our sons. Alan dropped me off on the way to pick up two fillets that would suffice as our brunch. The house was surveyed and Jay Jay and Coco barked at the top of their voices because I had tied them to the gate outside and went upstairs to look at some stuff.

Aileen, our future neighbour came over to welcome us to the neighbourhood and we chatted a bit. :) I am quite excited to get to know more people in our neighbourhood. From what I can see, there seem to be many old people in our lorong.

We left the house after around 15mins and headed back home. Whilst Alan took a short siesta, I bathed Jay Jay and dried his fur. I fell asleep on the couch when he was bathing Coco. hahaha. The short naps revitalised our tired bodies (both of us didn't sleep well the night before) and we showered and headed towards Mid Valley Mega Mall.

The KL Mega Sale was on and in lieu of our pending trip to wintery Oz, I bought two pairs of maternity pants and (errm) a lovely tube top. hehehe. We wanted to check out the changing table for babies as well which was RM499.

After inviting the Tan Family (Coco's girlfriend Chloe is their doggie) to dinner at Kajang, Alan and I drove leisurely there. They joined us at about 7pm and we had 40 sticks of beef and 40 sticks of chicken satay (the rest of the meats like mutton and rabbit were already sold out by then!) and some fried beehoon / noodles.

We ate and chatted and Saw Hoon and Ming Hu shared their horrifying experiences (from different lenses) of the delivery room experience. My eyeballs grew bigger and bigger at each description. ahahaa. At around 9+pm, we headed our separate ways and went home.

Alan and I continued the night booking accomodation for Oz. We got a great deal at a #1-ranking cottage in Margaret River on tripadvisor, which apparently has wildlife roaming all around the cottage and you can feed roos and what -nots by hand. We also booked our accomodation for Perth / Fremantle. YaY. This month and the next is indeed very, very exciting. :D

By the time we headed to bed to rest our aching bodies, it was already 130am. zZZzzz Thankfully Ethan was so tired out that he didn't kick me the whole night!

We are going DoWn UnDeR!

Hmmm... Actually there's nothing much to update..But have you heard??? We are going DoWn UnDeR!! :D

Finally, after weeks and weeks of deliberation as to where to go, Alan and I have finally decided to go to a country which we are very familiar with. AUSTRALIA! And which part of Australia? Where he took his degree and where I have been three times previously - PERTH!

We will do a self-drive (easier for the pregnant mama) from Perth and hit places like Fremantle/ Busselton/ Margret River. I guess we probably won't drive all the way down South to Albany as we have both seen the natural wonders, such as The Natural Bridge and The Gap. There will be some flea-market shopping (Fremantle) and some farm staying (Margret River) and visits to the vineyard where I shall stock up for my future indulgence!! Sad to say, if I'm gonna breastfeed, the indulgence shall need to be postponed. :( God am I craving for a good (bottle of) wine now~!!!

We are leaving KL and taking MAS (which is going for a song and cheaper than Air Asia) on 27th July and will only be back 9 days later on 4th August! *claps excitedly*

Our Meaningful Weekend

Friday 3 July 2009 (I Can't Believe it's July!!??!)

After Dania left my house at around 810pm, Alan and I decided to dine healthily tonight and we went for a steamboat at Taman desa again. This time, instead of the usual pomfret which we will order, we added only one plate of fishballs to our order of two sets. The bill didn't scare us that much and came up to be around RM 35. We decided against shopping for groceries etc tonight also as we were both shacked out.

Saturday 4 July 2009

We woke up relatively earlier than normal and headed excitedly to our new house. Yee Pok (the Pioneer entertainment systems seller) was to meet us there at 10am to determine where the speakers for the TV should be mounted. I chatted with his wife and tried to engage his little duaghter of 20 months to converse with me to no avail.

The wife , who is 4months preggers looked almost annorexic and warned me that if I put on too much weight, my baby will be very heavy and big. Errmmm This friendly advice has come a little too late. I've already put on TOO MUCH weight. hahaha Ok ok I shall try and cut down. It's all Alan's fault (must blame the Hubby) for feeding me too well. :P

After that apointment, we went to TMC nearby to pick up two bags of rice grains (10kg each), two big boils of cooking oil, 3 big tins of cookies etc for the Myanmar refugee children. I had already packed up some toys and Alan's old clothes as well to be given away. Previously, in Malacca, we had also purchased RM150 worth of snacks for the refugee children and also the children in Ti-ratana.

We drove all the way down to Jalan Alor and were stuck in a jam. After our sinful lunch of big prawn noodles and Beef Horfun, we met up with Lulu (the headteacher) at the KL Baptist Church in Jalan Alor, next to the KFC.

Lulu told us that the refugee children were housed around the area and she pointed out residences which were very run-down and barely livable in our standards. I guess the children would all be very thankful to have a roof over their heads and three square meals because they had all been displaced due to the merciless cyclone which had destroyed their families and homes in 2008. All the children are waiting to be relocated to different countries and a small organisation is helping them sustain their lives meaningfully now as well. I had gotten to know of this group of needy through Marie-Ann, a housing agent whom was helping us look for a house, in the early part of this year. Alan and I hope to do more over the next few months.

By the way, these group of 160 children have written and published a book, My Beautiful Myanmar which documents and illustrates their life in their home country. I hope to get contacts to sell these books (RM15/book) on consignment basis. Anyone interested in this VCIP project- let me know ok? :D Thanks!

After we dropped off the food items and chatted with Lulu for a while, we left for Mid Valley Mega Mall. Sheena, our fellow doggie-lover friend, whose bitch Bizzy has been betrothed to Coco, has invited us to this pets exhibition and fair, held over that weekend for all pet lovers.

We got in, after our hazelnut pearl red milk tea at the taiwnese restaurant and strolled around the fair. There were many doggies being brought around and it was amazing to see such a huge scale event for animals in KL, a city populated by mainly Muslims. We watched a creative fashion show, hosted by Pet Icon, and were horrified to see dogs which had been coloured and shaped in weird looking hues and patterns. I am glad my three dogs look NORMAL (and not like lions/ the moon/ leopards etc). :P

After the show, we toured the Cats and Rabbits arena and then left to 'collect' our car from the car wash. Then, it was a simple Teppanyaki dinner at the Garden's food court. :)

Sunday 5 July 2009

At around 8+am, we woke up and prepared our sons for the weekly activity. Coco's pre-novice class was slated to start at 930am.

Jay Jay was allowed to join in the class for a refresher by Madam Yap, the trainer, because there were very few doggies in that hour attending that class. :) She used him as well for some demonstrations *wipe sweat off brow* and thankfully he performend quite well. :P

After the lesson in which Coco truly and surprisingly behaved himself, we left to have some makanan at the dimsum place (One One Cafe) nearby. I ordered fish horfun (trying to stay healthy) and Alan ordered Singapore laksa. We also shared yam cake (steamed) and chilli stuffed with fish paste.

It was noon when we left that Taman and headed for home. After a quick shower, we both retired to bed for a short nap and woke up at around 4pm to bathe Coco and Jay Jay. Once that ordeal was done, we left for Bangsar Pasar Malum to pick up our usual seafood/ fruits/ vegetables.

Dinner was a cheap affair at Nasi Lemak Antarabangsar along the busy street. I had nasi lemak with rendang and a weird chewy beef jerky thing and Alan had nasi lemak with tough sea hum / chilli prawns and too-fried chicken breast.

Then, we went to Bangsar Shopping Village and chanced upon a shop which sold nice Indonesian-made furniture. We found two seats perfect for our patio (white rattan) and even a clothes basket for our bedroom toilet. There was another shop which sold antiques and their likes and we saw this gong which would go nicely on our tomlinson chest of drawers in our living room. hmmmmm...

Upon realisation that it was getting late, and worried that the fish stall had closed for the night (taking with it our paid Cod fish / prawns / fish balls) , we hurried back to the pasar to collect out items. Then, we went to TMC (again) and played a Super Quick SHopping Game.

There were 14 items on the list and we each grabbed a basket and were in-charge of getting 7 of the 14. ahahha In no time, we were able to pay for the items and leave the supermarket and head home tiredly...
